A local business consultant, Brian Zweig took office on January 1, 2006. This is his first term in public office. Zweig ran on three issues that are important to all residents.
- “We need to make sure that Rensselaer County has a world-class educational system that prepares our children for the future and encourages businesses to locate and hire in Rensselaer County.
- “We must also maintain and improve our quality of life ”.
- “I also believe that I can use my private-sector experience to help our local government operate more efficiently to save taxpayers money and improve services”
Zweig is the founder and principal of Business Opportunities Management Consulting, a firm that provides business planning and marketing assistance to growing companies in the region.
He has also been involved in many community and business organizations in the area.
Zweig is a founding partner of the Tech Valley Angel Network, which helps finance growing companies in the region. He is also on the advisory board for the Capital Region World Trade Center and is a member of the Rensselaer and Albany-Colonie Regional Chambers of Commerce. He previously served on the County's Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board and is a former President of the Rensselaer-Taconic Land Conservancy, a local land trust that promotes voluntary protection of open space
Zweig believes, “Rensselaer County is changing as the Tech Valley initiative brings jobs to the region and as people discover that Rensselaer County is a desirable place to live. These changes can have positive or negative impacts --- depending on whether or not we are prepared to take advantage of the opportunities presented. During this term, Zweig hopes to help the county prepare to make the right decisions for the future. He believes that will be accomplished through greater planning efforts and collaborations among municipalities. Zweig wants to open communications for regional planning and services.
Zweig grew up in Nassau and is a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1976. He received a BS in Applied Economics from Cornell University and a Masters in Business Administration from Dartmouth College. He and his wife Sylke live in North Greenbush. |
