Kevin Harrington begins his first term on the Rensselaer County Legislature January 1, 2006. Born and raised in Wynantskill, this is his first elected position.
He served in the U.S. Navy before earning his B.S. in Political Science at SUNY Plattsburgh. Harrington has been employed as a computer programmer with the NYS Assembly for nine years.
Active in his community, Harrington serves as a certified first responder and interior fireman with the Wynantskill Fire Department. He has coached youth sports including Twin Town Little League.
The sole proprietor of Enchanted Evenings Limousine, Harrington understands the challenges faced by small businesses. He and his wife Christine are the proud parents of two young sons.
During 2006, Harrington will serve on the Legislature's Standing Committees on Judiciary and Public Safety, Veterans and Youth, and Personnel. Additionally, he will also serve on the Jail Expansion Committee and the Rensselaer County Fire Advisory Board
As the youngest current county legislator, Harrington hopes to develop ways to involve new residents and younger constituents in county government through the development of advisory boards and task forces.
Harrington says, “The success of our county government depends upon an informed and active constituency--- not just every four years -- but every day.” He wants to find ways to make the governmental process for open an convenient to involve the public, such as use of the website to get feedback on agenda items and issues.
Harrington ran on reducing the size of government and will work to fulfill that goal of shared and more efficient service delivery. |
